Crispy, golden Spicy Cod Bites are coated in a flavorful cornmeal breading and fried to perfection. Paired with a tangy dipping sauce made from ketchup, horseradish, and Louisiana Hot Sauce, these bites offer the perfect spicy kick for any occasion.

Spicy Cod Bites

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
4 cup vegetable oil
1 lb cod fillets, cut into 1" cubes
1 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tsp cayenne pepper, divided
2 tsp garlic powder, divided
1 pkg Shore Lunch® Cornmeal Breading Mix
1 large egg, beaten
1 Tbsp water

Sauce

Quantity Ingredient
½ cup ketchup
1 tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
¼ tsp chili powder
¼ tsp black pepper
½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp The Original Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce
1 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 Tbsp prepared horseradish

Directions

    Heat the oil in a large stockpot to 350 degrees.

    Add the cod to a medium sized mixing bowl. Add the lemon juice, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and toss to coat.

    Combine the breading, remaining cayenne pepper, and remaining garlic powder in a shallow dish.

    Whisk the egg and the water in a shallow dish.

  • 5

    Dip each piece of the cod in the egg then dredge in the breading. Place the breaded cod on a baking sheet until ready to fry.

    Carefully add the cod, in batches, to the oil and fry for 2-3 minutes.

    Using a slotted metal spoon remove the cod from the oil to a platter lined with paper towels.

Directions for Sauce

  • 1

    Whisk the ketchup, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, Hot Sauce, and horseradish in a small mixing bowl. Serve immediately with the fried cod.
